Who Cares....

Who really cares about what's happening to our health care?

The powers that be, confuse the issue so much that people have become either complacent and don't give a crap or so paranoid they want no changes at all.

One of the issues that the media has made certain to point out is the cost of any changes in the current health care set up..................

Let's talk about changes.............before I go further I will say I am a nurse and have worked for 20 years in health care mainly Long Term Care.

First and foremost, the staggering amount of money being proposed to change health care isn't necessary.

The powers that be, need to look at the wastage in Long Term Care alone. The biggest one is medication. Even if a facility is using a pharmacy that supplies them with daily dosing, not all medications are returnable...........even if the medicine has not been compromised.

Narcotics get flushed down the toilets by the thousands of dollars in just one facility alone. Can you image how much that adds up to given the number of Long Term Care Facilities across the United States?

That is just one area of waste. Just think about all the other medical facilities across the USA including hospitals that waste thousands each year.

The next arena of waste comes to "In-Home" care. Did you know that there are hundreds of In-Home care agencies considered "non-medical" that in the state of Pennsylvania are not governed by anyone except by the agencies that supposedly supply these "In-Home" care agencies with clients.

Want to talk about waste.............For general purposes we will use the Office of the Aging as an example (there are others)....................

The Office of Aging will get a call saying someone is in need of services............instead of providing the person with services they give them a list of "In-Home" care agencies and then pay that In-Home care agency x amount of money to provide the care.

The In-Home care agency will then pay one of their employees to go care for the person needing help.

The powers that be dole out x amt of dollars to the Office of the Aging each year..........with the latter then doling out x amt of dollars to the in-home care agency............what happens is the government money allotted to the Office of Aging is used up by providing a third party provider.

Older Americans and/or disabled Americans go without care when the funds run out at the state level.....................and WHY did the funds run out????????????? Because while the Office of Aging is paying a third party unlicensed agency say $18/hr for care.................the third party agency pays their hired help on average 7 or 8 dollars/hr for that care.

So............approx. $10/hr is lost to a third party agency owner taking away government funds to provide care for those needing it.

Why has the government allowed such a loophole????

A simple fix wouldn't you think? Give these agencies such as the Office of Aging the staffing they need to provide in-home care at base level and provide more coverage for more needy Americans.

Nope to easy. It's easier to let these in-home care agency owners bilk the government out of dollars allocated to those who really need it.

Instead of people demanding to fix the areas of waste, we are all busy arguing with each other over up coming health care changes........

The list goes on.............

While the working class of America goes without health care, the powers that be can only argue about spending more money.

Any change needs to start with alleviating the waste going on in health care before doling out more play money that will ultimately not help those that need it most.

What's going to happen to all those baby boomers when they reach those so called Golden Years?

Will the government fix the waste, and allow those hard working class Americans to live at home with care or will they be thrown into Long Term Care because the waste continues?

Everything Golden is not always Golden and everything with Halos is not always an angel........

Where do you want to be on this health care ticket????
